Liberty of London

Designing the interior graphics for Liberty of London’s swimwear department required a balance of heritage charm and modern retail magnetism. Commissioned by Liberty’s creative director Joel Bernstein, the brief called for a design that felt unmistakably Liberty — rich in color, pattern, and culture — while allowing Rana to splash graphics extracted from her eclectic Middle Eastern archives, elevating the shopping experience for a contemporary, style-conscious customer.

Key motifs and colorways were reinterpreted into a fresh, coastal palette that still felt distinctly Liberty: saturated tones softened with illustrations and patterns from butterflies and flowers.

Large-format murals defined distinct zones—beachwear, cover-ups, accessories—creating visual anchors that encouraged exploration.

Material was a priority. I specified finishes that would endure high footfall while retaining color saturation: UV-stable vinyl with matte lamination for the murals.

The finished environment felt simultaneously timeless and contemporary: an immersive swimwear destination that honored Liberty’s storied prints while delivering a clear, compelling retail experience.

Customers entered a layered, colorful world that encouraged discovery, and the department performed visually and commercially as a cohesive, high-impact chapter in Liberty’s store.
