Sex Now

  • NRW-Forum, Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf 2 Ehrenhof Düsseldorf, NRW, 40479 Germany (map)

Invited by NRW-Forum, This exhibition, SEX NOW, openly explores themes surrounding sexuality.

On show was displayed extracts from my book ‘The Secret Life of Syrian Lingerie, Intimacy and Design's of renowned photographs by Lebanese photographer Gilbert Hage of my collection of Syrian Lingerie found in the souk Al Hamadiye, Damascus, Syria.

With works by Paul McCarthy, Peaches, Zheng Bo, Tom of Finland, Joëlle Dubois, Poulomi Basu, Miyo van Stenis, Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou, Martin de Crignis, Melody Melamed, Andreas Ullrich & Tatjana Bikic and many more.

The exhibition opens up spaces for personal, cultural and political questions. What does good sex mean? What does pleasurable equality look like? And how can we explore our bodies, desires and boundaries in a self-determined way? In a Japanese-inspired sound space, we encounter ASMR sounds that move between everyday life and eroticism. Other chapters deal with power, violence and visibility – for example, in works on #MeToo or in feminist pornography that questions stereotypes and creates new images. Unconventional preferences, fetishes, sensory stimuli – #Kinky is also a theme in the exhibition. Clothing from the TastySlips platform shows how strongly desire can be linked to smell, material or traces of everyday life.
