Thrilled to be unveiling my latest special commission for the DIVAS exhibition at the Sursock Museum in Beirut .
This exhibition was held at the IMA in 2021. After being hosted by the Wereld Museum in Amsterdam, it was recently on display at the Hangar - Ras Al Ain, in Amman, until February 20, 2025. The plan is to host it in Beirut at the Sursock Museum and afterwards in Cairo.
The DIVAS collection we designed for the museum’s gift shop draws its visual inspiration from the storytelling tradition found in 1970s African commemorative textiles and Kansas souvenir prints — both of which celebrated famous figures by placing their portraits in oval or circular frames, surrounded by vibrant, patterned backgrounds.
These textiles weren’t just decorative — they were acts of devotion and admiration, transforming leaders, icons, or loved ones into mythic symbols within everyday fabric.
In the Sursock DIVAS series, I reinterpreted this same visual language to celebrate Arab female icons — women who defined beauty, voice, and power in our cultural memory. Each portrait is framed, almost like a sacred relic, against ornamental backgrounds that echo this global tradition of pattern as reverence.
This project is a tribute to our cultural legacy.
Head to the Sursock Museum shop to see the full rage from cushions, to totes, pouches and mugs and more!
Can’t wait for you to see it !
The exhibition is on till January 2026.
